HOT STAMPING

The Hot Stamping process is described as Relief printing and as the name implies uses printing plates with raised images. It is also refereed to as Letterpress printing. The process is a function of four variables: die temperature, dwell time, pressure and stripping time. Hot Stamping has uses in the Graphic Arts, Plastics and Packaging industries where it is used to embellish or enhance the look of the article it is being used on. Generally speaking Hot Stamping is restricted to flat items however with certain attachments curved surfaces can be accomodated.

Features of Hot Stamping.

• No other printing process can offer the bright metallic finish which characterises this process. The process is unique and that can make a product look unique and therefore increase sales. Let the product do the talking for you.
• Hot Stamping is versatile. It can print onto all wettable materials - paper and board, thermoplastics and duroplastics, leather and textiles, wood and many other materials.
• The process is easy to master as the printing medium is Stamping Foil a preformulated dry ink on a polyester carrier. No messy inks or cleanup required. At the end of the day simply turn the machine off and go home.
• Equipment is relatively inexpensive saving costly capital outlays.

What does the process require?

• Hot Stamping machines to facilitate the heating of the die and to generate the pressure required for a sucessful print. Air operated machines can also regulate dwell time.
• Artwork i.e. the image that is to be printed.
• A film positive, which is produced from the artwork (normally made by the plate maker)
• A printing plate or die, which is either magnesium, copper, brass or silicone rubber.
• Hot Stamping Foil.
• Make ready material to compensate for imperfections in the die, substrate or worktable.
